Four days in Croatia's forested highlands — Lake Lokve, the Golubinjak woods and the Kamačnik canyon — with a day down the hill to Rijeka on the coast.
July 2023, based up in the hills. Lake Lokve and the motorway viaduct the first evening; a day in Golubinjak — spruce forest, the Pigeon Cave and the rock arch they call the Gates of Hell — then the Kamačnik canyon boardwalk and dinner at the tavern. A day trip down to Rijeka for the harbour and the Dead Channel, and on the way out the old turreted villa at Severin na Kupi.
